What? You haven't heard of CDW? What hole have you been living in?! - Ah, just kidding. I'd be more surprised if you actually knew what I was talking about. Unless you're an avid Yuffentine fan... then you may have heard of this. (Could Do Without) is a drabble type monster one shot that evolved into a 96 chapter long story with over 1000 reviews on Fanfiction.net. I started writing CDW on September 29, 2006. I was sitting in the back of Mr. Poulin's health class and had finished doing definitions early. I had recently played Final Fantasy 7 for my 20th time - Yeah, I was obsessed - so a brilliant idea popped into my head. "Hey, I have nothing better to do, let's write something about my favorite brooding gunman and hyper ninja!" So, I started to write, on a single piece of college ruled paper. I wrote from Yuffie's point of view, of course, because her and I share many personality traits - like talking a lot - her character came easily to me. It really isn't that hard to write Vincent either; "..." is all he says most of the time. So, I spent the last couple of minutes of class writing, and that was how this all started. I'd recently found the wonders of fanfiction.net before writing this story, so you can imagine how excited I was to go home and type out this little drabble of mine. I typed it up, uploaded it, and got numerous reviews. I had planned on it being a one shot, but due to popular demand - yeah, 5 people, real popular - i wrote a second chapter, and instead of being a drabble that wrote to prompts, I would write to phrases. [Like; don't look a gift horse in the mouth, and so on] People loved the idea, they fell in love with CDW. I enjoyed writing CDW for a very long time, as i mentioned above, Yuffie and I may as well be the same person, so writing her came naturally, and I included bits and pieces of myself into her. I also included situation from my own life into CDW and worked in situations that i found funny. I developed my own kind of writing style with this story. I can't explain it exactly, but, it's like a peephole into Yuffie's mind, as she surveys the world around her... or something like that. For a very long time, I loved writing CDW and my love for the Yuffentine pairing flourished. In the beginning I could whip chapters out of no where at a moments noticed, but as time passed I started to get bored with Yuffie and Vincent and updates were harder to come by. I'm not exactly sure why, but CDW started to feel more like a chore, than the fun I was having in the beginning. I became interested in other things, and my focus started to wander. This continued on for several months... And, after a year and four months, i've finally decided to end CDW. The chapters I was writing were hardly worth reading, and I had to make a hard decision about whether to end CDW on a good note, or drag it out till it was stretched and withered. So, i feel a bit sad to be letting this go, but it's for the best. Time to move on to bigger and better!
